HALLOWEEN HORROR NIGHTS 2019
Longform online video
In 2019, Halloween Horror Nights, the world’s premier Halloween event, was to have 80s theming throughout its scare-zones, houses, merchandising, and marketing campaign. It featured licensed partners including Ghostbusters, Stranger Things, Jordan Peele’s US, and Universal Monsters.
Together, with a team of creatives that included Writers, Designers, and Art Directors, I worked to brainstorm, write, and elevate concepts for the 2019 Halloween Horror Nights promotional video and broadcast. We narrowed our ideas to the top 3 concepts that were then presented to Universal Orlando & Hollywood Executives. The final concept was developed as a short film that could be broken out into three :15 second and two :30 second videos. This was a unique way for us to create more online content that highlighted each of our licensed partners individually as well as creating a short story that would build anticipation for this years event as a whole.
I wrote the chosen concept and then worked with a Writer to turn it into a script. We then worked to storyboard the spot in all of it’s forms.
INITIAL CONCEPT
DIRECTOR’S BOARDS
Once the team chose a Director, we worked with him to design the set. I then illustrated his vision for each and every shot. We worked with a precise 3D rendering of the set to ensure the accuracy of the illustrated shots within the designed set.
WARDROBE
I developed wardrobe boards and collaborated on set design boards that inspired the 80s wardrobe and set design.
SET DESIGN
CASTING
I wrote the casting specifications and worked with the Director, along with our creative team, to cast the 6 actors for the spot.
We were looking for a diverse group of young adults that could believably play long-time friends. We wanted the Stranger Things kids - 8 years later.
SHOOTING, SPECIAL EFFECTS, AND EDITING
I worked with wardrobe and makeup to prepare the actors and approve wardrobe. We then shot the spot, with a very talented team, over three 12-15 hour days. I worked as part of a smaller team, including the Director, to choose selects, oversee the addition of special effects, and to oversee editing.
